We had a great long weekend down in Arkansas hiking, swimming, playing cards and enjoying our family. Addi was a big fan of the backpack, even trying to climb into it by the end of the weekend when she wanted to go hiking. She was also a huge fan of the tea set and dress up she got to do with her Grandma Margaret. In fact she's been bringing us tea daily. We just wish holiday weekends could be longer...

As I sit at the kitchen table watching my daughter shove macaroni into her mouth with both hands, picking her peas out of the carrots and corn and periodically pointing out the patio door, signing bird (because we recently helped "rescue" a robin who had left the nest too early), I'm thinking that it has been a very good day. We went to story time at the library, had a short nap, Addi refused most of her lunch (may explain her 2% weight class), played outside, read more books, played inside, played outside, rescued afore mentioned birdie, only asked for Daddy and said NO about 100 times each, and I'm now about to go hose down a very yellow faced child. Tomorrow I start my new job part-time at KU, which is bittersweet. It's hard to believe my little girl is so grown up (15 months old now), but nice to know that it'll be good for both of us to establish a bit of independence.

Deep thought of the day: Next time, buy only peas - oh the smiles we'll have...
